Sharon R. Hanson, 79, of Hermitage, formerly of Sharon, passed away following a six year battle with cancer on Sunday, June 7, 2025, in her home.

Mrs. Hanson was born on November 27, 1946, in New Castle, IN, the only child of the late John and Elsie (Miller) McDaniel. She was a 1964 graduate of Sharon High School and attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass.

Sharon was a devoted member of the Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, Hermitage, where she played the organ and piano for more than 50 years. She organized many children’s musicals, selected music for the adult choir to perform, and served on the church’s board as the treasurer and secretary. Sharon faithfully served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her whole life.

She looked forward to sending cards to people and encouraging them. Sharon also found joy in working on puzzles.

She married her husband, Lee Hanson, on April 6, 1968, and enjoyed 58 years of marriage. Together they loved traveling, visiting 48 of the 50 U.S. states, along with trips to the Bahamas, Cancun and Aruba.

Prior to marriage, she worked as a cashier at the former Purdy Chevrolet and as a sales associate at the former Sharon Store. She eventually became a loving homemaker and bookkeeper for her and her husband’s business, Hanson’s Meats in Sharon.

Besides her husband, she leaves behind two children, whom she set a genuine Christian example for, Lisa Burke and her husband, Jack, of Mt. Vernon, OH, and Daniel Hanson and his wife, Andrea, of Louisville, OH; six grandchildren, Ashley Burke, Amanda Webster and her husband, Corrie, and Lee and Jack “J.T.” Burke, Mac Hanson and his wife, Jessica, and Marlee Reiss and her husband, Isaac; a great-granddaughter, Madelynn Grace Webster.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Roman Edward Reiss.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to either Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, 3480 Shenango Valley Fwy., Hermitage, PA 16148; or Be Life Church of the Nazarene, 522 30th St. NW, Canton, OH 44709.

Sharon’s family would like to thank Dr. Spielvogle and the entire staff of Hillman Cancer Center, Farrell Horizon UPMC, and Steel City Hospice for the exceptional care given to her.

Praise God, “She’s Better Now.”
