Sara "Sally" Anne Stephenson, formerly of Stone Ridge Blvd., Hermitage; and a 40 year resident of Woodrow Ct., Sharon, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015, in O'Brien Memorial Health Care, Masury, where she was a resident for the past 9 months. She was 87. Mrs. Stephenson was born October 7, 1927, in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of Elmer and Loretta Byrne Mehler. She was a 1945 graduate of Ursuline High School and received her RN degree from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1948 through the cadet nursing program. She was employed for a year at St. Elizabeth Hospital and then worked at the former Sharon General Hospital from 1950-1957. Sally was an active and faithful member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, where she belonged to its Women's Guild and Small Christian Committee. She was also a member of St. John XXIII Home Auxiliary, Hermitage. An avid bridge player, she belonged to a bridge club comprised of close friends for 60 years and was a member of the Notre Dame Bridge Club. Sally and her husband enjoyed attending Broadway productions and concerts at Buhl Park. An exciting time in the Stephenson household was joining their extended family at Geneva-On-The-Lake in the summer, a tradition dating back more than 50 years. Her husband, Francis "Frank" Stephenson, whom she married June 25, 1949, passed away November 11, 2012. They were married in St. Columba Cathedral, Youngstown, by the late Edward Cardinal Mooney, a former Arch Bishop of Detroit, MI and an uncle of Sally's. Surviving are: a daughter, M. Anne Piotrowicz and her husband Lawrence, Erie, PA; four sons, Edward M. Stephenson, West Middlesex; twins, John E. Stephenson and his wife Kim A., S. Pymatuning Twp. and Paul F. Stephenson and his wife Karen A., Hermitage; and Hugh H. Stephenson and his wife Ruby J., New Castle; 12 grandchildren, Stephen A. Piotrowicz, Edward M. Stephenson, Jr., Patrick G. Stephenson, Katherine B. Budd, John A. Stephenson, Adam J. Stephenson, Joel F. Stephenson; twins, Aaron J. and Joshua P. Stephenson; Sarah J. Osborne, Jon F. Stephenson and Emily M. Stephenson; 6 great grandchildren, John A. Stephenson, Jr., Samuel N. Stephenson, Alexander H. Stephenson; twins, Aidan R. and Haley B. Lawrence; and Oliver Jack Stephenson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, Sally was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Francis "Frankie" L. Stephenson; a daughter, Mary "Mimi" L. Stephenson; and a cousin and dear friend, Mary Frances DeJohn. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015, in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor, as celebrant. Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
