Sara S. (Mikis) Ser, formerly of Fontana, California, entered the gates of heaven at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage. She had just celebrated her 93 ^rd birthday.

Sara was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Stephen M. and Ella B. (Brest) Mikis. She attended Sharon High School.

Sara married Joseph "Joe" Ser on August 15, 1958, in Arizona. Upon returning to the Shenango Valley the couple made their home with Sara's mother, Ella Mikis, whom she loved, adored and cherished. Sara worked at the American Laundry in Sharon for several years. After the passing of her loving mother in 1971, Sara and her husband, Joe, relocated to Fontana, CA. With Las Vegas being nearby, Sara and Joe made many fun trips to Nevada. With the passing of her husband Joe in 1974, Sara, being a strong and independent woman, started her own housekeeping business which she maintained for more than thirty years. To this day, her ironing is known as legendary.

"Nan," as she was affectionately known, was very devoted to her family, particularly her nieces and nephews, many of whom stayed with her after graduating from high school. Closely devoted to her was her Goddaughter Cindy and her husband Ron and their sons, Travis and Chase Davis, with whom she shared her life with for several years before returning to the east coast in 2006. Upon Sara's return, she made her home with her brother, Floyd, and later with her sister, Grace, before entering St. John XXIII Home.

A devout Christian, Sara was a member of the Fifth Ave. Community Church, Youngstown, Ohio. Throughout her life Nan maintained a "sweet" and sometimes "salty" demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many who, even now, are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing, love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter and joking around, will never be forgotten. With a real zest for life, Nan loved to read Harlequin romance books, solve cross-word puzzles, crochet, play numerous card and board games, especially with her family, and enjoyed traveling and, in the minds of many, was considered Elvis Presley's "greatest fan." Possessing a true servant's heart, Nan faithfully cared for family and friends by assisting in the rearing of their children from coast to coast. Although she will be missed dearly, Sara created many beautiful memories for her family and had a wonderful life. She was loved by family and friends from coast to coast.

Surviving are: a sister, Patricia "Grace" Bernat and her husband John C., of Farrell; a sister-in-law, Margaret Mikis, of Boardman, Ohio; loving nieces and nephews, whom she adored: Sherry (George) Chirikas, Nancy (Tom) Caputo, Paulette Darlington, Jack (Kim) Bernat, Rodney (Kate) Bernat, Tarri Rauschenbach, Brian (Debbie) Bacon, Tommy Kolsky, Cindy (Ron) Davis, Sue (Jim) Purfey, Jackie Rae (Mike) Steiner, David Kolsky, Kim (Tom) Smegal, Tim Kolsky, Diane Franks, Barry (Debbie) Franks and Patty Bernat Hernandez. Nan was also loved by great and great great nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Nan was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Bacon, Rosemarie "Bubby" Franks and Margaret "Jeannie" Kolsky; a brother, Floyd Mikis; brothers-in-law, Thomas Kolsky and Glen Bacon; nephews by marriage, Jack "Fat Jack" Rauschenbach and David Darlington; nephews, Stephen "Skip" Mikis and Keith Franks; great nephews, Keith Franks and Nicholas Chirikas; and a great niece, Tandy Kolsky.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. John XXIII Home for their kindness and exceptional care, particularly Amanda, Michelle, Tammy, Mary, Donna and little Sarah.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018 , in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon .

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, in the funeral home, with Pastor Mary Hall from the Fifth Ave. Community Church, officiating.

Interment: Westside Cemetery, S. Pymatuning Twp.
