Obituary

Sara J. Dawson Bernhard Grimm, Hofius Lane, Hermitage, passed away at 5:07 a.m. Monday (2-28-11) at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 70.

She was born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania on February 8, 1941 the daughter of Joseph and Edith Schoefield Dawson.

She graduated from Coraopolis High School in 1959.

A homemaker, she was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon and belonged to their Lydia Circle.

In her early years, she was a member and past President of the Dormont Mothers Club and the Keystone Oaks Parent Faculty Organization. Along with her husbands, she enjoyed camping, square dancing, and spending time with her family.

Her second husband, Howard J. Bernhard, whom she married in 1969, passed away in 1992. Her third husband William E. Grimm, whom she married in 1994, passed away in 2006.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca J. Bernhard, St. Paul MN; a son Jay R. Bernhard, Merrill WI; her sister Roberta (Dawson) Miller, Buckhead Ridge Fl; five step-children, John Bernhard, William Grimm, Dawna Van Dyke, Teresa Newton, and Michael Bernhard, nine grandchildren, Michelle, Jim, and Jason Bernhard, Michele Hoffman, Kristin Lecky, Elizabeth Tate, Caitlyn Bernhard, Kyle Newton and Isabelle Bukovsan , and nine great grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Margaret Dawson Meadows, and Dorothy Dawson Clifford.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Sharon Regional Hospice and Palliative Care 2320 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA. 16148

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday (3-2-11) in the J .Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.

Services: A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (3-3-11) in Covenant Presbyterian Church, 263 East State St. Sharon, with Rev. Chris D. Wright of Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating.

The family asks that everyone go directly to the church the morning of the funeral.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
