Mr. Samuel J. Rosa Sr., of Clepper Manor, Sharon, formerly of Hermitage, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday (1-12-12) in Clepper Manor. He was 89.

Mr. Rosa was born February 16, 1922 in Sharpsville, Pa. the son of Pasquale Rosa (Rosati) and Mary G. Galloni Rosa.

He graduated from Sharpsville High School and Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa.

Mr. Rosa w was honored to have taught many immigrants the English language in Philadelphia, some of his student included foreign dignitaries. His span of teaching as a math and reading elementary teacher lasted 38 years and included positions at St. Francis of Xavier Elementary School, Burbank, California, and locally in the Sharpsville School District for 28 years. He was the first Title One director while teaching at Sharpsville.

He was of the Catholic faith and attended Church of the Notre Dame, Hermitage.

Mr. Rosa was a member and past president of Sharpsville City Council.

A decorated veteran of WWII, he served with the CB's (Seabees)and was honorably discharged with several medals and commendations.

His wife the former Genevieve Sainato, whom he married onFebruary 7, 1948, passed away on December 27th, 2000.

He is survived by a daughter, Joyce, Meiss and her husband Ronald Sr., Hermitage, two sons, Bruce Rosa and his wife Cheri, Sharpsville, Thomas Rosa and his wife Annemarie, Boston, MA, ten grandchildren, Jessica Dickson, BruceRosa Jr., Daniele Rosa, Amy Roqueplot, Matt Rosa, Jenny Valentine, Sara Stitt, Amanda Rosa, and Nicole Rosa, and Logan Rosa and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Rose Buchanon, Hermitage, Anna Petuch, and Josephine McMath,both Sharpsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son,Sam Rosa Jr., a grandson Ronald Meiss Jr., three brothers, Louis, Joseph, and Anthony Rosa, and four sisters, Della Rosati, Mary Stiggi, Jenny DelFratte, and Theresa Cashier.

Calling hours: In keeping with Mr. Rosa's wishes his calling hours and funeral service will be held privately.

William Roscoe Notre Dame member was decorated POW, Reservist William Roscoe, Sharpsville, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 9:58 a.m. Sunday (3-21-10) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 94.

Mr. Roscoe was born Aug. 15, 1915, in New Castle, a son of Paul and Stephina Roscoe.

He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School, Warren, Ohio.

Mr. Roscoe worked for the former Westinghouse Electric Corp. in both the Sharon and Camp Reynolds plants, where he had been an electrical tester. He also was a journeyman and member of the International Union of Electrical Workers.

William was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. Along with his wife, he enjoyed teaching religious education courses for Catholic churches throughout the Shenango Valley. While raising his three sons, he enjoyed serving as a Scout leader, a Little League umpire and simply by being there when they needed him most. He was instrumental in the building and development of Butala Stadium at Kennedy Catholic High School, Hermitage.

An Air Force Reservist, Mr. Roscoe retired with 20 years of service to his country. As a prisoner-of-war and decorated veteran of World War II, he received several commendations including the World War II Victory Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross, a medal that is awarded only to an officer or enlisted member of the armed forces who distinguishes themselves for support of operations by heroism or extraordinary achievement in an aerial flight.

He was a member of American Legion Post 299, Sharon.

William leaves his wife, at home, the former Dolores 'Dee' T. Rogers, whom he married Aug. 21, 1948.

Also surviving are: his three sons, Dr. William R. Roscoe and his wife Laura Ann, Stow, Ohio; Larry C. Roscoe and his wife Amy, Houston; and Bert C. Roscoe, at home; a sister, Helen Peace, Victorville, Calif.; a brother, Alec Roscoe and his wife Ann, Brookfield; and his four grandsons, John, Daniel, Cristian and Grant Roscoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Ondic; and two brothers, Nick and Walter Roscoe.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann's Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, PA 16121; or Church of Notre Dame, 2335 Highland Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Thursday (3-25-10) in Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with the Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann's Church, Farrell, as celebrant. A brief prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. prior to leaving for the church. Following the Mass, military honors will be rendered by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex; and American Legion Post 432, Wheatland.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
