Salim Basalat, 36, of Sharon, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, May 26, 2026, in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Youngstown, OH, after succumbing to fatal gunshot wounds.

Mr. Basalat was born June 21, 1989, in Berbice, Guyana, South America, and was the son of Shaheed Basalat and Shereen (Ali) Basalat of Saint Cloud, FL. He was raised and educated in Guyana, and emigrated to the United States in 2014 at the age of 25.

Salim was currently employed as a machine operator at Joy Cone in Hermitage.

He was an avid cricket fan and loved rooting for the Guyana National Team. Salim always knew how to get a crowd going and cherished the time he spent with family and friends.

Salim’s greatest joy in life was his two daughters, Ariel and Jasmine.

In addition to his parents, Salim is survived by his former spouse, Angily Sahadeo, and their two daughters, Ariel and Jasmine; his beloved mother and father-in-law, who treated him as their own son, Gita and Harry Sahadeo, of Sharon, PA; a brother, Wasim Basalat; and two sisters, Arifah and Amesha; three brothers-in-law, Keshan (Nicole), Amit, Akash (Laxmi), and Keion; and a sister-in-law, Devi; three aunts, Naz, Rehana, and Par; two uncles, Danny Odem and Danny Budhram; his “Minnesota Grandma,” Naino; a dear friend, Marcus; numerous cousins, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Friday (6-5-26) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

A celebration of Salim’s life will immediately follow at 5 p.m., in the funeral home, with Pastor Kelvin Jordan, officiating.

Interment will take place in the family plot in Saint Cloud, FL.
