September 3, 1926 – April 5, 2019
Ruth "Pansy" Rankin, 92, of New Castle passed away peacefully Friday morning, April 5, 2019, in Quality of Life Services.
Mrs. Rankin was born September 3, 1926, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Earl C. and Hazel (Allen) Brown.
Ruth retired in 1990 from the former New Castle YDC, where she worked as a house parent for 20 years.
Her devoted husband, Torrence Rankin, whom she fell in love with in 1956 and later married on April 20, 1963, survives at home.
Ruth was a member of St. Luke AME Zion Church, New Castle.
An exceptional cook, she loved hosting large family gatherings and entertaining guests. Ruth also enjoyed decorating her home with flowers for any and all occasions. Her entire life was dedicated caring for the family and her greatest joy came from spending time with all of them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Ruth is survived by two daughters, Charlene Rankin and Sarita Rankin; and four sons, Jodie Warden, Clarence (Carol) Warden, Darrell Warden and Jeffrey Rankin; a sister, Vera Brown; a stepsister, Winifred Brown, all of New Castle; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; a beloved nephew, Rev. Bryan (Apryl) Crawl; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Besides her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Robinson and Hazel Doster; a step-sister, Shirley Wynn; and a brother, James Ellarbee.
Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday (4-12-19) in Second Baptist Church, 537 Bell Ave, New Castle, PA.
A Home Going Celebration will be held at noon Friday, in the church, with Rev. Bryan Crawl, officiating.
Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Neshannock Twp.
