Ruth C. Johnson of 200 Wick Ave. Hermitage, formerly of Fayetteville, PA passed away at 5:25 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 in John XXIII Nursing Home. She was 97. She was born July 5, 1915 in Sharon to Albert and Anna Marie Mercer Etzrodt. Ruth was a 1933 graduate of Sharon High School. Following high school, Ruth attended Youngstown College for two years. Early in her life she was employed in the offices of Lustig's Shoe Store in Youngstown, OH and for PIAA Trucking Company in Masury, OH. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Ruth was a former member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, PA. She enjoyed playing the piano at church and for the religious services at the jail in Chambersburg. Ruth was a volunteer for meals on Wheels for 15 years and a volunteer for South Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Mont Alto, PA. Her husband, Ellsworth L. Johnson, whom she married January 11, 1939, passed away on April 11, 1994. They were married 55 years. She is survived by twin sons, Timothy A. Johnson and his wife, Barbara of Girard, OH and Rev. Terence E. Johnson and his wife Mary Ann of Evans City, PA; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. In addition she is also survived by a grandson, Brain Johnson and his wife, Joan with whom she made her home. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David L. Johnson and a brother, Herman Etzrodt. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 24, 2012 in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon, PA. Family will receive friends a half hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mont Alto Cemetery.
