Rudolph "Rudy" J Bodnar of Hubbard passed away at 11:43 a.m. Monday, February 6, 2017, in Autumn Hills Care Center, Niles, OH. He was 83.
Mr. Bodnar was born January 21, 1934, in Atlasburg, PA, a son of Frank and Mildred Dobroski Bodnar. Rudy was a 1951 graduate of Burgettstown Union High School.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany. While in Germany he played soccer for the Army soccer team. He was a standout athlete and was recruited with his brother to play on the German National Soccer Team.
He had a passion for sports. He enjoyed golfing and he playing baseball for the Farrell Pirates, the varsity club, Greenville VFW and Penn-Ohio Oldtimers League. Over the years Rudy was proud to coach his children's sports teams.
Rudy was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Vienna, OH.
He was employed for 33 years by the former General American Transportation Corporation, Masury. He retired from there in 1984 as a general foreman. He later worked as plant manager for Chevron Inc., Mercer, before he retired a final time in 1995.
He is survived by his wife the former Judy Burger, whom he married on December 28, 1963. Also surviving are: a daughter, Patricia Tetrick and her husband David, Brookfield, OH; two sons, Jay Bodnar and his wife Tracey, Fowler, OH; and Ward Bodnar and his companion Brent Baisch, Hubbard, OH; two brothers, Robert Bodnar and his wife Patricia, Cincinnati, OH; and Gerald Bodnar and his wife Gertrude, N.J.; one grandson, Ryan Tetrick and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Rudy was preceded in death by his two brothers, his twin, Richard Bodnar and Henry Bodnar; and a sister, Anna Mae Sweder.
The family suggest memorials be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, 4453 Warren-Sharon Rd., Vienna, OH 44473; or Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Rd., Canfield, OH 44406.
Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017, in St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Vienna, OH, with Rev. Frank Zanni, as celebrant.
