Roy "Bud" C. Johnston, a former longtime resident of N. Myers Ave., Sharon, passed away at
12:17 p.m.
Friday, April 1, 2016, in St. Paul's Home, West Salem Township, after a brief illness.
He was 93.
Mr. Johnston was born August 18, 1922, in the former Christian H. Buhl Hospital, Sharon, a son of Ralph E. and Genevieve Clifford Johnston.
A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Sharon High School and attended Youngtown State University.
Bud served with the US Coast Guard Merchant Marines during WW II and was a member of the American Legion, Post # 299, Sharon.
He retired in the late 1980's following a career in construction related businesses and as a home contractor. He was a member of the Homebuilders Association.
Mr. Johnston was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon.
He enjoyed family vacations and charter fishing trips on Lake Erie.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Anne Patterson, whom he married June 7, 1950; five children, R. Clifford Johnston, Sacramento, CA; Jeffrey E. Johnston and his wife Ellen, Mechanicsburg, PA; Mimi Mentrek and her husband Randy, Hermitage; Thomas Q. Johnston and his wife Stefanie, Snohomish, WA; and Jay C. Johnston, Hermitage; ten grandchildren, Eric Johnston; Annie Hoffman and her husband Reid; Eric Shipley; Steven Mentrek and his wife Danielle; Gregory Mentrek and his wife Kim; twins, Erin Mentrek and Genna Roskey and her husband Steve; and Natalie, Matthew and Miles Johnston; three great grandsons, Keegan, Keller and Austin Mentrek; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ralph F. Johnston; a brother, Ralph E. Johnston; and a sister, Margaret "Sis" Evans.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Buhl Park, 715 Hazen Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148; St. Joseph Church food pantry, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146; or St. Paul's Home, 339 E. Jamestown Rd., Greenville, PA 16125.

Mass of Christian burial will be
1:30 p.m.
Tuesday
in the church, with Rev. Jeffrey Noble, pastor of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, as celebrant.
Military honors will be rendered by the Sharon Honor Guard in the church immediately following the Mass.
Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
