Rosemary E. Brandenstein, formerly of S. Kerrwood Dr., Hermitage, passed away at 6:03 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2012, in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. She was 92. Mrs. Brandenstein was born December 31, 1919 in Pittsburgh a daughter of Pius and Augusta Ellig Airhart. She attended Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parochial Grade School and was a 1938 alumna of Holy Rosary High School, both Pittsburgh. During WW II she worked at Union Switch and Signal, Swissvale, PA as a shell inspector. Rosemary married Joseph Brandenstein on May 26, 1951 in St. Joseph Church, Bloomfield, PA by Rev. Francis Hungerman, her husband's first cousin. Her husband, Joseph, passed away February 10, 1995. Mrs. Brandenstein was an active member of the Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage where she belonged to the Ave Maria Society, Catering Group, 55 Plus Group and Wednesday morning small groups. She enjoyed roller-skating, bowling and card playing. Surviving are: a daughter, Mary Lou Brechtel and her husband James, Cocoa, FL; two sons, Thomas E. Brandenstein, Hermitage; and John J. Brandenstein, Transfer, PA; four grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leo Airhart; and a sister, Mary Martha Hungerman. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd; or Blessed John Paul II Elementary Grade School, 2335 Highland Rd., both Hermitage, PA 16148.
