Obituary

Rev. Ronald Lee McGinnis, 85, of Sharon, passed away with his wife at his side on Monday morning, January 13, 2025, in UPMC Shenango Valley Hospital, Farrell.

Rev. McGinnis was born March 16, 1939, in Darby, PA, a son of the late Errol Edwind and Ruth Elizabeth (Thomas) McGinnis. After graduating from Lower Camden County Regional High School in Lindenwold, NJ, he enrolled at Eastern College in St. Davids, PA, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Sociology in 1960. Ron then entered the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, also in St. Davids, PA, where he earned a Master's in Divinity and was ordained a minister by the American Baptist Churches in 1963.

As a young minister, Ron served as a pastor for several Baptist Churches in Eastern and Central Pennsylvania before serving as pastor at First Baptist of Jersey Shore, PA, from 1971 to 1982. He then relocated to Sharon, PA, to serve as the Pastor of First Baptist Church of Sharon from 1982 to 1989.

In 1998, Ron entered the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and was ordained as a Presbyterian Minister by Presbyterian Church U.S.A. the following year. He then served as an interim Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in New Castle for three years, and later in a similar capacity for several other Presbyterian churches in Western Pennsylvania. Prior to retirement, Ron served as an Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Sharon for three years.

Coinciding with his ministry was his passion for serving the community. Ron served as a board member for many non-profit organizations throughout his life, including the American Red Cross, Sharon Ministerial Association as Secretary and Treasurer, Community Food Warehouse, Mercer County Juvenile Advisory Council, and the Knox Foundation.

In addition to playing golf and traveling, Ron also enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in a well-kept lawn.

His wife of 32 years, Constance L. "Connie" (Cousins) McGinnis, whom he married on October 9, 1992, survives at home.

Ron is also survived by four children, Sharon Riggenbach (Michael), Karen Reckless (Scott), Kenneth McGinnis (Melissa), and Linda Isaac (Anthony); three step-children, Christine Plummer (Barry), Beth Schupp (Ronald), and Bradley Borko (Heather); 11 grandchildren, Daniel Schreiber (Candice), Nathan Schreiber (Sarah), Adam Reckless (Elena), Allison Reckless (Kelsey), Aaron Reckless, and Jacob, Genevieve, Kaitlyn, Adrienne, Nathan, Sarah, and Lauren Schupp; and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Shirley Doyle (Ernie); and five sisters-in-law, Jane McGinnis, Joyce Gray, Faye DeCapua (Richard), Lynn Black, and Gail Papay (Louis).

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a brother, Errol McGinnis, Jr.; and an infant grandson, Isaac Schupp.

An hour of reception will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday (1-16-25) in the Wilson Parlor of First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St., Sharon.

A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Glenn Hink, officiating.
