Obituary

Ronald L. Davis, 74, of New Castle passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday evening, April 11, 2019, following a brief illness.

Ron was born October 31, 1944, in New Castle, a son of the late Adison J. and Donna D. (Smith) Davis. A 1962 alumnus of Shenango High School, he later graduated from Youngstown State University in 1972, earning a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration in Accounting.

Ron was a Marine. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in Vietnam and fought during the infamous Tet Offensive. He was a Scout dog handler which was the foundation of his love of German Shepherd dogs.  He espoused the values of the Marine Corps...honor, courage, and commitment; which served as the basis for how he thought, acted, and fought throughout his life.  After the Marine Corps, Ron worked for Kennedy Tubular while attending YSU, ultimately becoming a Certified Public Accountant.  Ron dedicated himself to accounting.  Prior to starting his own accounting practice, he worked for Philip Wiener Co. and S.R. Snodgrass, both in New Castle.  Throughout his accounting career, he made numerous friends.  He gave of himself unselfishly to many and found great joy in helping his neighbors by cutting their grass and plowing their driveways.  In his younger days, he was meticulous about his lawn, often reseeding it if it didn't meet his standards.  A talented slalom skier, Ron loved boating and teaching others how to ski. He was at home on the water... except when he'd lose his glasses.  Ron also enjoyed playing pool and fooling others into believing that he wasn't good.  He served on the Board of Directors for the Law. Co. Association for Responsible Care, was a member of the American Legion, Post 343, and supported many Veterans organizations . Although Ron's biological family isn't large, his "family of choice" is quite extensive.....many considering him like a father; calling him Big Ron, Uncle Boom-Boom, or Pappy Ron.  At one point in time or another, he probably helped you out.....told you what you needed to hear .....or tormented you out of love.  On the outside he was rough, but on the inside he was a softy (seriously, his favorite movie was Ghost).

Ron leaves behind his faithful wife of 47 years, the former Barb Gaydos, whom he married July 29, 1972; and a daughter, Susan Davis, both of Neshannock Twp.; a brother, Bob (Pat) Davis, New Castle; and a sister, Marna Boyd, of Volant; a brother-in-law, Ted Samaras, Monaca, PA; and a special confidant, Al "Buddy" Gaydos, of St. Louis, MO .

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pam Samaras.
