Ronald James Copper, 78, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday evening, May 26, 2026, in Masternick Memorial Health Care Center, New Middletown, OH, following a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Mr. Copper was born February 17, 1948, in New Castle, a son of the late Harry Barkley Copper and Dorothy Richeal Copper. After graduating from Laurel High School in 1966, he earned a bachelor's degree in education from Youngstown State University in 1971. Ron then enrolled at the former St. Francis School of Nursing, where he completed his training and certification to become a Registered Nurse.

A dedicated and caring psychiatric nurse, Ron began the first five years of his career at St. Francis Hospital in New Castle, and later worked in the same capacity at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, OH, for 26 years. He retired in 2013 following his years of service at St. E’s.

Ron was a longtime member of the former Rich Hill Presbyterian Church in Volant, PA.

Following retirement, he enjoyed spending his winters in Houstin, Houston, TX, visiting his sister, Beth. Ron also looked forward to attending social events and various Bible studies held at Second Baptist Church in Houston.

Ron is survived by a brother, Richard A. Copper (Deborah), of New Castle; a sister, Elizabeth A. Copper and her partner, Mark Cohen, of Houston, TX; a niece; two nephews; an aunt, Jeanne Llewellyn of Phoenix, AZ; a cousin, Kevin Strawhecker (Lori) of Cortland, OH; as well as numerous other cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight E. Copper.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the caring staff at Masternick Memorial, the dedicated Sanctuary Hospice care team, especially Roseanne, and our cousin Kevin, and his wife Lori, for their devotion and support.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public viewing.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Interment will take place in Rich Hill Presbyterian Cemetery, Volant, PA.
