Committal with military honors will be held for Ronald E. Baxter of Masury, formerly of Stambaugh Avenue, Sharon. He passed away peacefully at 9:05 a.m. Saturday (10-25-14) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a lengthy illness. He was 68. Mr. Baxter was born Sept. 15, 1946, in Sharon, a son of Charles E. and Sarah Jane Quigley. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Sharon High School. Mr. Baxter served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged with several medals and citations. Ron worked for close to 20 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and retired at the plant's closing. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Sharon. When his health was better, he enjoyed bowling and softball. More recently, he loved to follow his beloved Chicago Bears, watch old reruns of "M*A*S*H," play a good game of cards and keep up to date with CSPAN. He leaves: his three daughters, Joann D. Baxter, Farrell; and Rebecca "Becky" L. Baxter and Tiffany D. Baxter, both Wendell, N.C.; and his former wife, Sarah Baxter, also Wendell; two sisters, Shirley Sakony and her husband Tom, Solon, Ohio; and Donna Farley, Sharon; his brother, Gary Baxter, Masury; and a grandson, Jacob Cruz. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Calling hours and services: Private services were held in the Buhl Memorial Chapel of Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage. Interment: Committal in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors provided by the West Middlesex Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233 Honor Guard and Wheatland American Legion Post 432 Honor Guard.
