IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert D.
Whitehill
April 16, 1938 – January 8, 2025
Beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Robert Whitehill passed peacefully in his home in Hermitage, PA, on January 8th at the age of 86. Bob's career as a draftsman supported his true passion: architecture and woodworking. Bob built six houses, each of which his family lived in while he built the next. His handcrafted furniture fills his family's homes. Bob loved a beautiful building and long admired the enduring grace of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Later in life, he sat next to his young granddaughter at his drafting table and taught her perspective drawing and did the same for his great-grandchild many years later.
Bob and Gram together were the "community grandparents," providing rides for the grandchildren and their friends (who also called them Bob and Gram), hosting sleepovers, and buying all the McDonald's and Burger King the kids could eat.
Bob will be remembered for his strong hugs, elegant architectural drawings, the best wheelbarrow rides, his appreciation for the music of Englebert Humperdinck and Brenda Lee, and his curious insistence that eating your vegetables "put hair on your chest" (his grandchildren sometimes found that joke funny).
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Constance Whitehill [Eckel], and his children, Timothy (Tracey) Whitehill, Valerie Whitehill, and Patrick (Jeri) Whitehill. He is also survived by five grandchildren - Lacy (Chris Haynes) Cunningham, Miki (Dana) Burick, Mason Whitehill, Nate (Tom) Whitehill-Nigl, and Jordyn Whitehill. He has two great-grandchildren, Emmanuel Haynes Cunningham, and Addison Burick.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Whitehill, a sister, Betty Beebe Emanhizer [Whitehill], a son-in-law, Joseph Hufnagel, father, John Whitehill, and mother, Agnes Whitehill [Vorous].
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
