Robert Michael Sumner, Hermitage, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday (8-10-13) in Cambria County, Pa. He was 50. He was born Dec. 22, 1962, in Oil City, a son of Robert James Sumner and Charlotte Conn Sumner Kovach. Robert graduated in 1980 from Hickory High School, Hermitage, and later from Seattle Pacific University, Seattle, Wash. Robert was a senior systems analyst for several Pittsburgh companies over the past 20 years. He enjoyed golfing and rooting for his Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Ann Shaffer, Hermitage; his four children, Jessica F. Sumner and her fiancé William "Michael" Clarke, Hermitage; Sarah E. Jones and her husband Jeremiah, Mercer; and Joshua M. and Daniel R. Sumner, both Hermitage; his grandchildren, Aeris J. and Alexander T. Sumner; his brother, Fredrick Douglas Sumner and his wife Anna, Marienville; a nephew, Mark A. Kramer, Erie; his father, Robert J. Sumner and a stepmother Mary, both Marienville; and his mother, Charlotte Kovach, Hermitage. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Louise Kramer; and both his paternal and maternal grandparents. Calling hours: None.
