Obituary

Robert H. Rodgers, 6559 Stewart-Sharon Rd., Brookfield, Ohio passed away at 1:01 a.m. Friday (2-4-11) in Hospice of the Valley's Hospice Home, Poland, Ohio, after a brief illness. He was 71.

Mr. Rodgers was born April 25, 1939 in New Wilmington, PA a son of the late Audley E. and Sarah J. McConnell Rodgers.

He attended Mercer High School and was a lifelong area resident.

Bob retired in 2001 as manager of the wrecker division from Chevron, Inc., Jefferson Township, where he was employed for sixteen years. He previously was a fabrication foreman at the former General American Transportation Corporation, Masury, Ohio where he worked for seventeen years.

He was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon. Bob enjoyed going to 'cruise ins' and car shows in his 1957 Chevy, which won several trophies, and riding his Harley Davidson. His greatest joy, however, was the time he shared with his family.

Bob served with the US Army and later with the US Army Reserves.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Theresa Cugino, whom he married May 25, 1963 in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon; a daughter, Lisa M. Lukasko and her husband Paul, Fowler, Ohio; a son, Brion R. Rodgers, Grosse Ile, Michigan; two grandchildren, Erica Rodgers and Michael Rodgers, also Grosse Ile; four sisters, Alice J. Heini and her husband Michael, New Wilmington; Grace Gibson, Greenville; Eleanor Bartholomew, Mercer, PA; and Patricia Sorg and her husband Carl, Fredonia; three brothers, Edwin A. Rodgers, Grove City, PA; Thomas A. Rodgers and his wife Mary, Sharon; and Merle P. Rodgers and his wife Mary, Mercer; a brother-in-law, Robert Burdick, Mercer; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by five sisters, Esther Gilkey, Betty McCullough, Leila Mitchell, Mary Burdick and Shirley Smith.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Hope Lodge, 11432 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland, Ohio 44106; or Hospice of the Valley's Hospice Home, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 444514.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday (2-7-11) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday (2-8-11) in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, with the Rev. Henry Andrae, pastor, as celebrant.
