Obituary

Robert A. Resele of Hermitage passed away peacefully at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, in St. Paul's Home, West Salem Twp., where he was a resident since June. He was 94.

Mr. Resele was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Sharon, a son of Steven and Pearl Dickerson Resele.

He attended the former St. Joseph Parochial Grade School, Sharon, and was a 1938 graduate of Sharon High School.

A decorated war veteran, Bob served as a Master SGT. with the US Army in the South Pacific during WW II and was the recipient of many medals, including the Purple Heart.

Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and married the former Mary Ruth Hodgson on October 3, 1946. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage until her death on Jan. 2, 2009.

Bob retired from the former General American Transportation Corp. (GATX), Masury, where he was employed for 40 years. A hard worker, he also repaired televisions and worked for Twin Trailers in Hickory Township.

Bob had a keen interest in boats most of his life. Along with his brother, he hand crafted his first boat in the late 1940's and named it Pokey.

Following his retirement from GATX, Bob and his wife purchased the former Boyd Marine in 1980. They owned and operated Boyd-Resele Marine in Orangeville, Ohio, for many years and the family business, now Resele Marine, Inc., is currently operated by their son.

Bob was a charter member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Joseph J. Fitzmartin Council 1446, Greenville.

Years earlier, Bob served as a troop leader for the cub scouts, Pack 35, and boy scouts, Troop 66, both Hickory Township. He was a member of the VFW, Post # 1338, Sharon.

Surviving are: five sons, Ronald M. Resele and his wife Sherry, Hartstown, PA; Robert S. Resele and his wife Laurie, Northumberland, PA; Paul R. Resele and his wife Paula, North East, MD; John C. Resele and his wife Dana, Transfer; and James B. Resele, Orangeville, OH; fifteen grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Resele; and two granddaughters, Kimberly Anne Resele and Julie Ann Resele.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148; or St. Paul's Home, 339 E. Jamestown Rd., Greenville, PA 16125.

Calling hours will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 , in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.


Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Saturday in the church with Rev. Jeffery Noble, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage, with military honors.
