Obituary

Robert A. Palumbo, Sr., 74, of Pymatuning Township, formerly a lifelong resident of Farrell, passed away with his family by his side Wednesday, June 24, 2020, in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Mr. Palumbo was born Sept. 15, 1945, in Sharon, a son of the late Frank
and Lucy (Pruent) Palumbo. He attended Farrell schools.

A skilled tradesman, Robert first worked for Palumbo Television sales and service, Hermitage, where he received his Admiral Television certification to work some of the first color receivers. Later in his youth, he was mentored by his father, Frank, who taught him the electrical trade. During his father's declining years, Robert guided and eventually assumed control of Shenango Electric Co. For many years the company was the leading electrical construction institution for the valley. He was a journeyman electrician for over 40 years and a member of IBEW #712, Beaver PA. Robert had a thirst for technical knowledge and eventually expanded into refrigeration where he eventually became a licensed HVAC technician. He was the guiding force that spearheaded the founding of the first refrigeration union.

Robert was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell. He was a 32nd
Degree Free and Accepted Master Mason, Kedron Lodge #389, West Middlesex,
and also a member of the Italian Home Club, Farrell.

He had a work ethic that was difficult to match, and some would even say he
was a "workaholic." When Robert wasn't working, he escaped by taking a ride
on his Harley, which he named "Old Thunder."

A phenomenal cook, he would cook using tools and could make an amazing meal
out of the ingredients he had laying around.

He also loved hunting with his sons, nephews, friends and running his beagles through the woods. Another one of Robert's passions was helping others. Often times, he would mentor, as his own father had done with him, taking someone down on their luck and teaching them a trade.

He is survived by his three sons, Robert Palumbo, Jr. and his wife Sherry
Salem Palumbo, of Anaheim, Calif.; Brian Palumbo and his wife Carol Lee, of
Burghill, Ohio; and Kevin Palumbo and his wife Heather J., of Rapid City, S.D.; nine grandchildren, Drew, Matthew, Brittani, Dustin, Aubree, Blake, Justin, Hayley and Kendra; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother, Leo Palumbo, of Hermitage; and a nephew, whom he treated like a son, Jim Canon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and an ex-wife, Sandra Geisel, who assisted and cared for him over the years.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by three sisters, infant Angela, Farrell, Eleanor, West Middlesex, and Rozella, Sharon.

There are no calling hours.

A graveside service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Interment: St. Ann's Cemetery, Hermitage.
