Funeral services will be held on Saturday (11-20-10) for Robert Harold Olinger Jr., Audley Ave., New Castle, Pa. who passed away unexpectedly at 4:18 p.m. at his residence. He was 76.
Robert was born in Ellwood City on April 8, 1934 the son of Robert Harold Sr. and Hazel Reese Olinger.
He attended Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, New Castle.
A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Ellwood City High School. Mr. Olinger retired with more then 35 years of service from the former Calgon Coporation in Elwood where he worked as a shipper.
An outdoorsman, He enjoyed hunting, and he especially enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren. He loved to woodwork and was known to make walking canes and birdhouses.
He served with the United States Army in the 1950's and traveled to both Germany and Lebanon during his tour of duty.
He married the former Marian Plyler and they enjoyed 54 wonderful years of marriage.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Marsha J. Mitchell, Boardman, Ohio, and Linda D. Covert, New Castle, Pa., his son, Robert H. Olinger III and his wife Jo Ann, Canton MI, a son in law David Covert, New Castle, six grandchildren, Jamie, Steven, Joshua, Jeremy, Hannah, and April; three sisters, Nancy Wallace and her husband Ted, North Ft. Myers Fl., Judith Clift, Montgomery NY., and Margaret "Peggy" Kimpel and her husband Bob, Ellwood City, two brothers, Thomas Olinger and his wife Nancy, Zelienople, and Blaine Olinger, Ellwood City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ernest, James, and John Olinger.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday (11-19-10) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 111 West Falls St. New Castle, Pa.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Chris Weichman, Pastor of Clen-Moore Church officiating.
