Robert M. Nakich, 86, of Sharon, formerly a longtime resident of Farrell, passed away Saturday evening, March 29, 2025, in Hospice House, Boardman, OH.

Mr. Nakich was born November 1, 1938, in Farrell, a son of the late Marco and Sylvia (Paczak) Nakich, and graduated from Farrell High School in 1956.

Robert enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and honorably served from 1956 to 1959.

For more than 20 years, Robert worked at General American (GATX), Masury, OH, where he began as a laborer and retired as a foreman in 1982. During retirement, he worked at Sharon American Legion, Post 299.

Robert was of the Catholic faith.

He was a member of the Farrell VFW, Sharon American Legion, the Croatian Club and the New Deal Club, both Farrell.

An avid fishing enthusiast, he was also a devoted Farrell Steelers fan and a talented bocce player. His greatest joy in life was becoming a grandfather. Robert loved hosting family gatherings to enjoy great music and even better company.

His beloved wife of 53 years, Elaine (Fanelli) Nakich, whom he married in 1963, preceded him in death in the fall of 2016.

Robert is survived by his children, Shawn J. Nakich (Mona), of Farrell; Elizabeth Carnes (Kevin), of Fredericksburg, VA; four grandchildren, Marco and Geno Nakich, and Alexandra Fay (Trever) and Brockton Carnes; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Elaine Fay.

In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Kowalsky and Vicki Macuga.

Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday (4-3-25) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Military honors will be rendered at 5 p.m. by the Sharon American Legion Honor Guard. A funeral service will immediately follow, with Rev. James Power, officiating.

Interment: Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.
