Obituary

Robert William "Bob" Maykowski, 69, of Sharpsville, passed away Friday afternoon, December 18, 2020.

Mr. Maykowski was born April 26, 1951, in Sharon, a son of William and Phyllis (Lawler) Maykowski. He attended Sharpsville High School, where he excelled as a member of the varsity basketball, baseball and football teams. Many that knew him still talk about what a great athlete he was to this day.

After high school, Bob served as a Boatswain's Mate in the U.S Navy from 1969-1971, and was honorably discharged.

His wife, the former Carol Banas, whom he married June 26, 1993, survives at home.

For many years, Bob worked as a self-employed handyman and residential painter. He retired from Notre Dame Parochial Grade School, where everyone knew him as 'Janitor Bob'.

He enjoyed gambling and taking trips to Las Vegas with his wife. He also enjoyed listening to oldies music and attending Vogues concerts. In addition to being a marathon runner for many years, he also liked walking all around town, earning the nickname, 'the walker.' He looked forward to visiting amusement parks, attending classic car shows, especially for 57 Chevys. He loved spending time with friends and family, and making plenty of jokes.

Bob was a member of St. John's Orthodox Church, Hermitage.

He was also a member of the Sharon American Legion, Post # 299.

Bob always put others before himself. His positive attitude remained a constant, even after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He never let the disease get him down. Bob could make friends anywhere he went, and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by their daughter Jennifer (Chad) Kilgore, and his daughter, April Lynn (Anthony) Peredo; a stepson, David Trepanosky,  two grandchildren, Austin Kilgore and Kayley Peredo; his mother, Phyllis (Lawler) Maykowski, three brothers, Bill (Patty) Maykowski, Terry (Becki) Maykowski, and Dennis Maykowski; four sisters Kathy (Joe) Cantrell, Debra (Gary) Kane, Beverly Mayler, and Maureen Maykowski; three brothers-in-law, Ron (Lois), Mick and Steve Banas; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Maykowski; a sister, Sandee Maykowski Derr, his mother-in-law, Catherine Banas, a brother-in-law, Bob Banas; and a sister-in-law, Judy Banas.
