Madden

Robert "Bob" J. Madden of Hermitage passed away unexpectedly at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2016, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 68.
Mr. Madden was born May 18, 1948, in Sharon, as son of Robert and Mary Catherine Dunn Madden.
A lifelong area resident, he attended Sharon High School before entering the military.
Bob enlisted in the United States Navy on October 12, 1965 serving two tours in the Vietnam War before being honorably discharged on May 19, 1969. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Bob worked in publishing for 40 years, first as a pressman for the Sharon Herald, and then went to work for the Dow Jones/Wall Street Journal Publishing Plant in West Middlesex where he worked as the press foreman before he retired in 2008.
He was an active member of the Sharon American Legion Post 299 where he served on the Board of Directors, as Past Commander and ran bingo for many years. He also loved to play euchre with his friends at the Legion.
Bob was recently inducted onto the Sharon American Legion Post 299 Wall of Honor in March of 2016 for his service and dedication to the Legion.
He was a member of the Hickory VFW Post 6166.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed golfing, boating and hunting. In the winter months Bob loved spending his evenings sitting around the lake in Florida with his wife, Karen.
Surviving are his wife, the former Karen Beighley, whom he married December 10, 1993; two daughters, Jennifer (Joseph Jr.) Stoner and Christina (Michael) Henshaw, all of Hermitage; two sisters, Cathy (Robert) Reiter, Sharpsville, and Donna Schmidt, Charlotte, NC; one brother, Scott (Renee) Madden, Sharon; his mother-in-law, June Beighley, Hermitage; and sister-in-law, Darlene (John) McIntyre, Hermitage. Also surviving are two grandchildren Preston Henshaw and Addyson Stoner, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Madden, and his sister, Joanne Madden.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon American Legion Post 299, 1395 E State St, Sharon, PA 16146.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7:00 p.m. Today (8-11-16) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday (8-12-16) in the funeral home, with Rev. C. Charles Eckles, Pastor IHS Gospel Ministries, officiating.
Military Rites will be conducted by Sharon American Legion Post 299 Honor Guard following the funeral service.
