Robert Lee Fellion, 81, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017, in Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg, PA.
Mr. Fellion was born February 23, 1936, in Springfield, MA, a son of Lee and Rosaria Olivero Fellion. Robert proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps for over 20 years. He enlisted 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1974 as a Gunnery Sargent. Robert served three tours in Vietnam and was awarded the following citations: Combat Action Ribbon; Vietnamese Campaign Medal; Navy Commendation Medal with Valor; Vietnamese Service Medal with 4 Bronze stars; National Defense Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation of Gallantry Cross with Palm; Presidential Unit Citation; and five Good Conduct Medals.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Mary Mother of Hope parish, New Castle. Robert was a longtime member of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima and the PCUC. He actively supported and volunteered his time at several charities, including: Toys for Tots; Wounded Warriors; Disabled Veterans; and Salesian Missions.
He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and traveling. Robert was a dedicated father, husband and grandfather whom loved spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
His wife of nearly 60 years, the former Mary I. Vierra, whom he married November 25, 1956, passed away April 4, 2016.
Surviving are: three daughters, Kathleen Fellion, of Boulder City, NV; and Laura (Brett) Fellion Zasadni and Elizabeth (Michael) Lanshcak, all of New Castle; four sons, Patrick (Christine) Fellion; Michael (Pamela) Fellion; Jonathan Fellion; and Carl (Elaine) Fellion, all of New Castle; a sister, Cherie Fellion, Springfield, MA; two brothers, Lee Fellion, Conneticut; and James Kircaldy, Bridgewater, MA; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a twin sister, Roberta Musiak; and a sister Janet Fellion.
Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday (6-26-17) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday (6-27-17) for St. Mary's Church, 124 N. Beaver St., New Castle, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon by Rev. Frank Almade, pastor.
Military honors will be rendered by the New Castle Area Honor Guard following the prayers of committal at Madonna Cemetery.
Interment will follow in Madonna Cemetery, Union Twp.
