Obituary

Funeral will be Friday for Robert Louis Dach, 936 Alcoma St., Sharon, who passed away at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, May 10, 2015, in his home under hospice care after a six month illness. He was 88. Mr. Dach was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Sharon, a son of Louis and Susan Monaghan Dach. A lifelong area resident, he attended the former St. Joseph Parochial Grade School and Sharon High School, which he left early to enlist in the Navy. He served as a Petty Officer with the Navy aboard the USS Auburn in the North Atlantic during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home and took night classes, graduating from Sharon High School in 1946. Bob was initially employed as a timekeeper at the former General American Transportation Corp., Masury. He then worked in the automotive industry for more than 50 years as a parts and service manager at the former Wein Motors, Jim Sarvas Dodge and Varley's Dodge City, all at Boyd Drive and East State Street, Hermitage, retiring in 2006. Following his retirement, he worked for three years at Hovis Auto Supply, Hermitage. Bob was a devout Catholic and a lifelong active member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. He served as an usher for many years, was a Scoutmaster for the church Boy Scout troop, and, along with his wife, worked with the church food pantry. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 684 and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 103, both Sharon. Active in veterans affairs, Bob was a charter member and past commander of Catholic War Veterans; a member of American Legion Post 299 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1338, both Sharon; chairman of Sharon Memorial Day parade for more than 40 years; and served with Sharon Honor Guard. Bob enjoyed sports and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. He also was associated with Sharon High School's football program for 35 years as a line-to-gain crew member and for the former Shenango Valley Blasters games at Tiger Stadium. Surviving are: his wife of 61 years, the former Patricia Quinn, whom he married Nov. 7, 1953, in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, in its former location; eight children, Jeff Dach, Story, Wyo.; Ed Dach and his wife Wanda, and Tim Dach and his wife Jean, all Casper, Wyo.; Carol Koch and her husband, Keith, Sharon; Terry Dach and his wife Lisa, Hermitage; Susan Fox, Gaylordsville, Conn.; Bill Dach and his girlfriend Katie Cocain, Farrell; and Chris Dach, Sharon; and eight grandchildren, Matt, Josh, Ryan, Steven, Colin, Brigid, Alec and Jordan. Bob was preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters, Rita Miller and Susanne Mihalcin; and a brother, Thomas Dach. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Prince of Peace Center, 502 Darr Ave., Farrell, PA 16121; or St. Joseph Food Pantry, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146. Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Friday (5-15-15) in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor, as celebrant. Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage, with military honors rendered by Sharon Honor Guard.
