Robert F. Curtis, formerly of Strawbridge Ave., Sharon, passed away at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in Juniper Village at the Shenango Inn, 1330 Kimberly Rd., Sharon, where he resided for the past two years. He was 89.
Mr. Curtis was born August 1, 1922 in Greenville, PA the only child of the late William J. and Mildred Eckles Curtis.
He was a 1941 graduate of Sharon High School and attended Youngstown State University where he studied business administration.
Bob served with the US Navy during WW II in the S. Pacific on New Hebrides Island. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed as a welder at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., retiring after 35 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked at the former Stambaugh-Thompson, Warren, Ohio until its closing; and later in the maintenance department of a high rise building in Youngstown, retiring again in 2003 at the age of 80.
Bob was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. He enjoyed golfing and, more recently, writing poetry. He began writing poetry in 2004 and published many of his poems in a chronicle titled, A Pocketful of Dreams. Bob will be remembered by many as a witty, hardworking man with a great sense of humor.
His beloved wife, the former Phoebe Stigleman, whom he married July 20, 1941, passed away September 6, 2004.
Surviving are: four daughters, Joyce Davis and her husband Roger, Port Clinton, Ohio; Alice McDougall, Mansfield, Ohio; Maryanne Kocan and her husband David, Charlotte, NC; and Carol Svarny and her husband Mark, Hermitage; a son, Robert W. Curtis, Sharon; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by three grandsons; a great granddaughter; and a son-in-law, Wallace McDougall.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2012 in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
