Services will be at a later date for Robert J. "Bob" Brannon III, Sharpsville, who passed away at 10:30 p.m. Jan. 22, 2015, in Orange Village Care Center, Masury, following an extended illness. He was 70. He was born Jan. 3, 1945, in Sharon, a son of Robert J. Brannon Jr. and Betty J. Dangerfield Brannon. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Sharpsville High School and immediately enlisted in the United States Army. He completed three tours of duty in Vietnam and more than 200 combat missions; he was honorably discharged with the Armed Forces Expeditionary Meda, and three Air Medals with three Oak Leaf Clusters. Bob was employed for several years at Sharpsville Steel Fabricating where he worked as a craneman. He was certified through Indiana University of Pennsylvania as a private investigator and he worked for several local agencies. Bob loved to ride his motorcycle and he loved the biking community. He was a familiar face at bike night and he participated in several rallies with Rolling Thunder, a group that strives to affect national policy in a way that will assist POW/MIAs. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed both hunting and fishing and he was always happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He is survived by: his daughters, Vicki Dinger and her husband Nick, Walkertown, N.C.; Teri Koval and her companion Robert Rogan, with whom he lived; Kim Powell and her husband Sean, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Karen Steindorf and her husband Ken, Sharon; and Jill Smith, Hubbard; his sons, Gary Swogger and his wife Janine, Sharon; and Robert Brannon IV and his wife Vicki, Mercer; four sisters; six brothers; 24 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staffs at both St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, and Orange Village Care Center for the compassionate care given to Bob in his final days, it was truly appreciated. He was preceded in death by: two brothers; a sister; his father, Robert J. Brannon Jr.; his mother, Betty J. Brannon Smeltzer; and a close friend, Ron Currie. Calling hours and services: In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service is being planned for a later date. Interment: West Side Cemetery, South Pymatuning Township.
