Robert E. Brandt of Hermitage passed away at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, December 11, 2016, in Nugent's CCRC. He was 92.
Mr. Brandt was born June 12, 1924, in Sharon, a son of Charles E. and Thelma Jones Brandt.
He was a lifelong area resident and a 1942 graduate of Sharon High School.
Following high school, Robert was inducted into the U.S. Army April 24, 1943. He served in the European Theatre of operation and was awarded the WWII Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal before being honorable discharged, January 13, 1946.
Robert was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corp., Sharon, where he worked as a production clerk, and later as a union steward before his retirement in 1983.
He met his wife, the former Olympia S. Missory, at Westinghouse, and they were married in St. Anthony's Church, Farrell, on May 28, 1948.
Robert was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon.
He enjoyed bowling, playing cards on Saturday nights, taking daily walks downtown, buying lottery tickets, horse racing and cheering for the Cleveland Browns.
Robert always found pleasure in helping others and was an active blood donor for over 40 years.
Surviving are: his wife of 68 years, Olympia "Lynn" Brandt; a daughter, Karen Churlik and her husband Thomas, Hermitage; a son, Robert Brandt and his wife Charlene, Newton Falls, OH; a step-sister, Charlene Brandt, Charlotte, SC; two grandchildren, Jessica Churlik; and Taylor Brandt.
Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his step-brother, Neil Brandt.
Calling hours will be 11 am until the time of service Tuesday (12-13-16) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematoy, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, officiating.
Entombment: St. Rose Mausoleum, Hermitage.
