Obituary

Richard W. 'Dick' Ehrlich, Sharon, passed away unexpectedly at 3:26 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2011 in Sharon Regional Health Systems. He was 84.

Mr. Ehrlich was born July 19, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA a son of Anthony H. and Mary Felix Ehrlich.

He attended St. Joseph's School in Pittsburgh. He left school to serve in the Medical Core in United States Army during the Korean War.

Dick retired in 1989 after 25 years as the Assistant Manager of Beitler-McKee Optical in Sharon and Pittsburgh. After retiring from Beitler-McKee, Dick currently was employed for the past 20 years at Sharon Family Optical in Greenville and Sharon Offices.

Mr. Ehrlich was a member of St. Joseph's Church. Dick was very active with the Sharon American Legion Post #299; through the legion he was involved in providing funeral detail for fallen comrades with the honor guard. He was also a member of Catholic War Veterans and Korean War Veterans. Richard was very active in Boy Scouts; He joined the Boy Scout Troop 259 Silver Tip, Pittsburgh in 1939 and earned the rank of 1st Class Scout, Was assistant scout master of Troop 233 and 259 Silver Tip District from 1948 to 1950, Governor of Hill Top Moose 151 in Pittsburgh from 1962 to 1963. Was president of Sharon American Little League from 1981 to 1982, Webelos Leader Pack 1 at St. Joseph's Church, Sharon from 1982 to 1985, Member of Troop Committee from 1982 to 1992, Unit Commissioner for the Seneca District, Allegheny Trail from 1986 to 1989 Richard received many awards through is many years of service in the Boy Scouts, such as the Den Leader Award in 1983, District Award of Merit in!

1984, St. George Award 1984, Scouter's Training Award 1985, Commissioner Arrow Head 1986, Scouter's Key 1987, Wood Badge Beads 1989, Wood Badge Training 1987, District Chair Person for Scouting For Food 1990 and 1992, Silver Beaver Award in 1992, was on the Cub Training Staff of Seneca District Allegheny Trail Council, Training Staff of Cub and Boy Scout Custaloga District.

Dick is survived by, His wife, the former Betty Ann Matters Ehrlich, whom he married October 3, 1953; a daughter, Susan M. and her husband Robert S. Cairns of Chester Gap, VA; 4 sons, Richard W. of Sharon, PA, George A. and his wife Mary Kay Ehrlich of Manassas, VA, Matthew C. and his wife Ada Ehrlich of Sharpsville, PA and Chuck P. Ehrlich of Manassas, VA; a sister, Marion Reich of Pittsburgh, PA; 7 grandchildren, Geoffrey, Katherine, Colleen Ehrlich, Michael, Mindy, Robert Cairns, and Valery Hamilton Hudson; 1 great grandchild.

Besides his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a sister Mildred McCulough; a brother, Francis S. Ehrlich, and twin brothers Henry and Joseph Ehrlich.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011 in St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitmann.

Entombment will be in St. Rose Cemetery.
