Obituary

Richard Earl Stainbrook, Sr. of Sharon passed away peacefully at 6:00 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, in his residence. He was 82.

Mr. Stainbrook was born September 14, 1943, in Cleveland, OH, a son of the late Theodore and Mildred Leahy Stainbrook. He was a graduate of St. Timothy's Parochial School, Cleveland, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Richard served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Following his discharge, Richard moved to Sharon where he lived for the past 60 years.  He retired as a blaster in 1984 from the former General American Transportation Corp. (GATX), Masury, where he was employed for 30 years. During retirement, Richard delivered meals throughout the Shenango Valley for the Area Agency on Aging for approximately 10 years.

He was involved with the inception of the Midget Football League, Sharon, and coached the Midget Tigers for many years. Richard was also involved with Little League and coached the Sharon Fabulous Goldstein's team. He loved attending football and basketball games at Sharon High School.

Richard enjoyed golfing and played in the Friday Elks league and the Tuesday VFW league at the Hickory VFW Golf Course, Hermitage. He was a diehard Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan.

On any day of the week, you could find Richard hanging out at Ponzurick's Garage on Irvine Ave., Sharon.

Most of all, he enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Georgiann Green, whom he married January 22, 1955, in St. Timothy's Church, Cleveland, OH; three daughters, Tracy Green, Sharon; Paula Jones and her companion Michael Colello, also Sharon; and Patricia Thomas and her husband Jeff, West Middlesex; three sons, Theodore "Ted" Stainbrook and his wife Sharon, Sharon; Richard Stainbrook, Jr. and his wife Portia, Huntsville, Ala.; and Daniel Stainbrook and his wife Jodi, Clarkton, Ari.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Richard also leaves three brothers, David Stainbrook and his wife Barbara, Zanesville, OH; William Stainbrook and his wife Dee, Berea, OH; and Thomas Stainbrook and his wife Kathy, Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Patricia Muniak and her husband Walter, Medina, OH; and many nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore Stainbrook whom was lost in the Korean War; and Robert Stainbrook; his step-father, Raymond Hudec; and a son-in-law, John Green.

Calling hours will be 3 p.m. until the time of service Thursday ( 3-30-17 ) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be 5 p.m. Thursday , in the funeral home, with Rev. C. Charles Eckles, pastor of I.H.S. Gospel Ministries, Hermitage, officiating.
