Richard "Rip" Prezioso, 909 Julia Blvd., Farrell, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2015, after a summer of failing health. He was 91. Mr. Prezioso was born December 12, 1923, in Farrell, a son of Michael Prezioso (Prince) and Madeline Del'Losso Prezioso (Prince). He was raised on the 1000 and 1100 blocks of Emerson Ave. in Farrell and as a child played the mandolin in the Greco Orchestra. Rip was a 1941 graduate of Farrell High School and served with the Navy Air Corps. from 1943 to 1946. Rip began his career as a time keeper at the former Carnegie Steel in Farrell and retired in 1986 from Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant where he was employed for 43 years, primarily in the grinding yard and shearing department. Richard was a member of St. Adalbert's Church, Farrell, and its Men's Club. He also worked at Holy Cross Cemetery with fellow parishioners and friends for many years and later as a pierogi maker at the church. Always active, Rip enjoyed gardening, yard work, tropical vacations, the camaraderie at Silver Sneakers, feeding chickadees, SUDOKUS and general tinkering. Having played softball as a young adult, he enjoyed sports, especially watching his daughter Kathy play softball and his son Bob, bowling. His wife of 55 years, the former Stella Telega, whom he married April 11, 1950, passed away January 1, 2006. Together they raised three children in a close knit family. Surviving are: a daughter, Janet Prezioso and a son, Bob Prezioso, both Farrell. He also leaves a brother, Ronald Prezioso, Hermitage; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Prezioso, Niles, Ohio; Wealthie Prince, Canfield, Ohio; and Sally Prezioso, Reynolds. Besides his wife, Rip was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathy Prezioso; a sister, Mary Jane Rotell; and three brothers, Ralph Prezioso, Rudy Prince and Michael Prezioso. The family would like to thank Sally Prezioso and the Bob Walsh family for their kindness during Rip's illness; and Dr. Greenburg, the staff at Sharon Regional Health System, and Sharon Regional Home Health and Hospice for their special care and assistance. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2015, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. The Rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015, in St. Adalbert's Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Joseph Campbell, pastor, as celebrant. Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
