Richard Allen “Rick” Olson, 73, of Hermitage, passed away and was joyfully reunited with his daughter on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Mr. Olson was born on May 27, 1952, in Youngstown, OH, a son of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Wise) Olson. He was a 1970 graduate of Boardman High School.
Rick spent his career in road construction, working for Dunbar Slag and retired as an inspector for the Shelly Company, Kent, OH, where he was fondly known as “Buster.”
He attended St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon. He was a Free and Accepted Mason, Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex.
He enjoyed travelling, taking weekend adventures, reading and doing sudoku puzzles. Rick was a fan of old western and military shows and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Indians.
He is survived by his wife, the former Cecelia Antus, whom he married on June 6, 1987; two sons, Richard Olson, Jr. (Rebecca), and Shawn Stroup, all of Erie, PA; a granddaughter and apple of his eye, Rosalie Guthrie; two sisters, Janet Guerrier (Charles), Chelsea, AL, and Patricia Davis, of North Lima, OH; and a brother, Thomas Olson (Cindy), of Burghill, OH.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his daughter, Natalie Rose Olson, on July 29, 2015.
The family would like to thank the staff of UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell, Avalon Springs Nursing Home, Mercer, and UPMC Passavant Hospital and its hospice group, Pittsburgh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family or Pink Angels, C/O the Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern Ohio, 7 West State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Friday (04/10/2026) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home, with Andrew Bucci, officiating.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
