Richard G. "Dick" English of Mercer passed away January 4, 2019 in Sharon Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Richard was born in Sharon, a son of the late Milton G. and Martha Slater English. A lifelong area resident he attended Brookfield schools. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as an armorer and ammunition technician, later earning the rank of Corporal. Following his honorable discharge, he worked alongside his father and grandfather in the family business as a real estate and insurance agent. He later specialized in residential and commercial real estate appraisal, establishing the business known as Richard G. English and Associates in Sharon PA. He and his daughter, Jean Marie English, who will carry on the family business, earned their SRA designations through the Appraisal Institute. He also served as a consultant for the Mercer County Assessment Office.
Richard was active in many organizations in the community including: Community Action Partnership of Mercer County, past president of Kiwanis Club of Sharon as well as past Lt. Governor of the District, past president of the Mercer County Behavioral Health Commission board, past board member of the Community Counseling Center of Mercer County, past president and current member of Greater Mercer County Board of Realtors, past president and current treasurer of the Appraisal Institute Mahoning Valley Chapter. He was also a member of the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, Greater Erie County Board of Realtors, Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors and Society of Real Estate Appraisers District 22. He was a Free and Accepted Mason of AASR Valley of New Castle. He was a past instructor in Real Estate Appraisal at Penn State University, Shenango Valley campus.
Richard is survived by his wife, the former Susan Ringer, whom he married December 5, 1987. Also surviving are son David (Rosella) of Phoenix, AZ, his daughter, Jean Marie of Hermitage, his son Richard (Farial) of Galway, NY, his stepdaughter Tabatha Peters (Craig) of Mercer, PA, his grandchildren, Alex, Ben and Joe English, Mark and Kara Peters, Mallory Middleton (RJ) and Phillip Adkins (Deanna) and his great grandchildren Aria and Mila. Also surviving are his mother-in-law Mary Ringer, Mercer and brother-in-law Frank Ringer (Lillian) of Transfer.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers David of Hartford, OH and Kevin of Palm Beach, FL.
A memorial service will be held on January 19, 2019, at 11 AM in the Mercer United Methodist Church, Mercer, PA, with Rev. Brian Keller, pastor, officiating.
