Richard 'Dick' D. Glaser, 591 Carnegie Ave., Sharon, PA passed away at 5:31 p.m. Thursday (3-10-11) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. He was 65.
Mr. Glaser was born January 2, 1946 in Sharon a son of the late Carl and Gladys Metz Glaser.
He attended Patagonia Elementary Grade School and was a 1963 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage, PA.
Dick served with the US Army from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam Era.
He was employed as a coil winder at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 18 years and currently worked as a steel slitter at Colonial Metal Products, Hermitage, where he has been employed for the past six years. Dick lived in New Milford, PA from 1985 to 1995 and worked for Allied Signal and managed the Parkview Hotel.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sharon. Dick was an avid baseball player in his youth and played in the Hickory Little League and also the Babe Ruth League. He later coached little league in Hermitage for many years. Besides baseball, he enjoyed fishing, bowling and reading.
Surviving are: his devoted wife, the former Marcia Ann Kerns, whom he married August 28, 1965 in the Hickory United Methodist Church; two daughters, Margo Letts and her husband Brad, Sharon; and Alexis Rose and her husband Tim, Columbus, Indiana; seven siblings, James Glaser and his wife Palma, Hermitage; Sally Dufford, Hermitage; Ronald Glaser, Hubbard, Ohio; Dale Glaser, Sharon; Carol Glaser, West Middlesex; William Glaser and his wife Trudy, Harrisburg, PA; and Robert Glaser and his wife Faith, Indian Trail, North Carolina; four grandchildren who were his greatest joy in life, Scarlet Rose, Katherine Letts, Cassandra Letts and Garrett Rose; a sister-in-law, Linda Gagliardi Redmond, Hermitage; a brother-in-law, Harold Kerns and his wife Lucy, Pasadena, California; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a niece, Barbara Parker.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church Christian Education Fund, 237 W. Silver St., Sharon, PA 16146.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today (3-12-11) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon; and from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday (3-13-11) in the First United Methodist Church, Sharon.
