Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday (10-13-12) for Reginald E. Vernon, Hermitage, who passed away peacefully of natural causes Wednesday (10-10-12) at 1:30 p.m. in St. Elizabeth's Hospital. He was 85. He was born November 12, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Carl W. and Mildred Leona Andrews Vernon. He attended schools in Chicago and later moved to Sharon where he graduated from Sharon High School in 1948. Mr. Vernon was employed by the former Sharon Transformer division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation where he was a draftsman for 37 ½ years, he retired in 1985. He belonged to St. Joseph's Church, Sharon. He was also a member of the Sharon Lions Club and the American Legion Post 299, Sharon. A decorated veteran of WWII, he served with the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the Pacific Theater Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Theater Medal, and ultimately the WWII Victory Medal. His wife the former Josephine White whom he married on June 25, 1949, passed away March 11, 1996. He leaves his three daughters, Roberta Vernon, Aurora, OH, Kathleen Blodgett and her husband Steven, Malvern, PA, Marcia Thompson and her husband Bradley, and his son David W. Vernon and his wife Terry, all of Sharon, nine grandchildren, Erin Bell and her fiance Dan, Meredith Stamm and her husband Jeffrey, Ross Wason and his wife Kristin, Ryan Wason and his wife Jeney, Cameron Vernon and his wife Christina, Corey and Chloe Vernon, Hallie and Colin Thompson; two great granddaughters, Kelsey Wason, and Ava Vernon. He also leaves his sister Dorothy "Dottie" Harrison, Masury, Ohio. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Vernon.
