Obituary

Regina Margaret Nelson, Sharpsville, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 1:08 a.m. on Saturday (3-19-11) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 92.

Mrs. Nelson was born in Sharon on November 14, 1918, the daughter of John C. and Anna Kelly McGowan.

A lifelong area resident, she graduated from Sharon High School in 1936. Following high school she worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

She was a member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, and a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Sharon where she was a member of their Mothers Club.

In past years she enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, reading, and gardening, but as the mother of a large family she was more interested in giving her time to her 11 children, 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and her great great grandson who arrived last Tuesday. As she raised her children she was often seen working the concessions at many Sharpsville sporting events.

Her husband Maurice 'Morry' Nelson whom she married on June 24, 1939, passed away on April 28, 1992.

She is survived by her four daughters, Anna Mary Patton and her husband Tom, Sharpsville; Jean E. Colter and her husband Del, Hermitage; Joan K. Kerr, Vienna, Oh, and Claire G. Hoke and her husband Pete, McVeytown; PA., six sons, David M. Nelson and his wife Diane; Daniel E. Nelson and his wife Beverly, all of Hermitage; Michael K. Nelson, Sharpsville; Vincent L. Nelson and his wife Debra, Ballston Spa NY; Matthew Nelson and his companion Harlan McClean, Duarte, CA; and Patrick J. Nelson and his wife Marie, Howland, OH; 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Paul Mark Nelson, a granddaughter Carol Leona Valenly, a great grandson Jeffrey Adam Myhra, and three great granddaughters, Emily Ann Nelson, Mia Eileen Patton, and Kaitlyn Nicole Jones who passed away this past week, three sisters, Genevive Schosser, Gertrude Gargano; and Mary Katherine Sasla, and two brothers, John 'Jack' McGowan, and Edward Paul McGowan.

Mrs. Nelson requested that any memorial contributions being made in her memory go to the Elevator fund at St .Bartholomew Church 311 West Ridge Ave. Sharpsville Pa. 16151.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (3-23-11) at St .Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, with the Rev. John S. Lynch, former pastor, as the celebrant. A brief prayer service will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to leaving for the church.
