Regina "Jean" DeGerolamo, a longtime Farrell resident, passed away under hospice care at 6:07 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018, in Canterbury Place, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness.
She was 85.
Mrs. DeGerolamo was born August 8, 1932, in Sharpsville, a daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Hether) Merat.
She was a lifelong area resident and a 1950 graduate of Sharpsville High School.
Years earlier, she worked in the mailroom at Sharon Steel and was a teacher's aide at Farrell High School.
Jean was an exceptional homemaker and an active member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell, where she was a money counter for many years.
She was a very active member of the Farrell VFW Auxiliary, Post #5286, where she was currently the treasurer and served as a past president.
She also served as a past president for the District and Mercer County VFW Auxiliaries.
Jean absolutely loved baseball and watched it year round on the MLB network and other channels.
She was most proud of her 1-0 record as a baseball manager when she stepped in for the manager of Goldstein's at a Class B baseball game her son was playing.
Her biggest priority, however, was her family.
She was an extremely devoted mother and grandmother and rarely missed any of their athletic or scholastic activities.
Her love for them was unconditional and she will be dearly missed.
Her husband of 29 years, Frederick T. DeGerolamo, passed away in 1985.
She is survived by a son, Patrick J. DeGerolamo and his wife Sherry, of Hermitage; five grandchildren whom she adored, Amanda Peagler and her husband Quinten and their children, Addison and Aliana; Jennifer Prezgay and her husband David and their children, Isaiah and Emery; Anthony DeGerolamo and his wife Anne and their children, Jackson and Leah; Justin Fike; and Michelle DeGerolamo.
She also leaves a sister, Rilla Svirbly, of Greenville and formerly of Sharon; numerous loving nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Esther Merat and Theresa DeGerolamo.
Besides her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret "Margie" Laverty; and two brothers, Thomas and Robert Merat.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, Pa. 16121.
