Reba Mae Rose, 39 S. 16th St., Sharpsville, passed away unexpectedly at 4:40 a.m. Monday (1-19-09) in the hospital of the Sharon Regional Health System following a brief illness. She was 81.
Mrs. Rose was born Dec. 10, 1927 in Monroe Township, Bedford County, PA and was raised by Andrew and Verna Diehl Karnes.
She attended Colerain Grade School and Bedford (PA) High School.
Reba was employed as a cook for more than fifteen years at Five Gables Restaurant in Bedford before moving to the Shenango Valley in November of 1968. She was a cook for about ten years at the former W.T.Grant's Store in the Shenango Valley Mall, Hermitage, and worked for twenty-five years in the housekeeping department at Clepper Manor until December of 2008.
Reba was a charter member of the South Pymatuning Community Church and a former member of its Ladies Aid Group. She was also a member of the Sharpsville VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Reba will be remembered as a hardworking woman with a feisty demeanor. She had a great sense of humor and was known for her many acts of compassion. A wonderful wife and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she leaves her husband at home, Harold Francis Rose, whom she married Dec. 2, 1950; a daughter, Judith M. Marsteller and her husband James, Transfer, PA; a son, Richard E. Rose, Sharon; a sister, Freda Davis, Clearville, PA; a brother, David Theodore Schleuter, Orange Grove TX; eleven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a step daughter, Margaret L. Hinson, Osterburg, PA.
Reba was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Rose Marsteller; and five brothers, Pete, George, Blair, Carl and Harry.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the South Pymatuning Community Church, 3500 Tamarack Dr., Sharpsville, PA 16150; or IHS Gospel Ministries, 786 Karen Lane, Hermitage, PA 16148.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday (1-21-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday (1-22-09) in the funeral home with the Rev. C. Charles Eckles, pastor of IHS Gospel Ministries, Hermitage and Rev. David Searle, pastor of South Pymatuning Community Church, officiating.
Interment: Mt. Washington Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
