Obituary

Raymond G. Taylor, 89, of Transfer, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 7, 2023, in UPMC Jameson Hospital, New Castle.

Mr. Taylor was born on February 1, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Baden and Irene (Neff) Taylor. He attended Neville Island High School and joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. He honorably served as a Marine for seven years and spent an additional 13 years in the U.S. Airforce.

Following his retirement from the military, Ray began working as an insurance agent. He represented Nationwide Insurance in both Sharon and Greenville.

A man of deep faith, Ray was a member of St. Michael Catholic Parish, Greenville. In his early years, he played the organ at the Church of Notre Dame, and was a cantor at St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, both in Hermitage.

An avid modeler, he was a member of the Skylarks, Model Airplane Club. Additionally, he enjoyed bowling and raising American Eskimo dogs.

On November 27, 1954, he married his "best friend," the former Dolores Hundenski.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years; a daughter, Linda Lee Taylor, St. Petersburg, FL; two sons, Bruce Taylor, Sharpsville, and Brian Taylor and his wife Rachele, Warren, OH; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Melissa, Zachery, Sarah, Leeann and James Scott; and four great-grandchildren, Emily, Noah, Sydney and Ava. Also surviving is a half-brother, Alex Taylor and his wife Helen, Port Allegheny, PA; and a step-brother, Ed Diehl, Coraopolis, PA.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by two brothers, Baden and Ernie Taylor.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Reynold VFW Post 7599, 115 Edgewood Dr., Greenville, PA 16125.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday (01/11/2023) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday (01/12/2023) in St. Michael Catholic Parish, 85 North High St., Greenville, with Rev. Brandon Kleckner, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Michael's Cemetery, Greenville.
