Raymond Leroy Gill, 1625 Hall Ave., Sharpsville, passed away peacefully at 4:30 a.m. Monday (12-29-08) in his home following an extended illness. He was 64.
Mr. Gill was born Nov. 30, 1944 in Sharon a son of Raymond F. and Anna Maybee Gill.
He was a 1962 graduate of Sharpsville High School and enlisted with the US Marine Corp. following his graduation. He served with the Marines for six months and then was released from initial tour of active duty for training and then served three and ½ years with the USMC Reserves.
Mr. Gill retired in 1993 from the former Sawhill Tubular Products-Division of Cyclops where he was employed for 30 years. He co-owned Kenray Models, a business that designed, manufactured and sold scale models such as railroad cars, steel mill reproductions, cars, trucks, civil war re-enactments and others.
Mr. Gill was a member of the Shenango Valley Area Scale Modelers. He enjoyed reading, with a special interest in History, and was a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
His most treasured time was with his grandchildren and attending their sporting and academic events. A man who lived life by 'The Golden Rule', Mr. Gill was a volunteer Santa Claus for several years with the Sharpsville Service Club.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by: his wife, the former Donna L. Drake, whom he married May 28, 1966; two daughters, Jennifer Manley and her husband Scott, Pittsburgh; and Raeann Hlumyk and her husband John, West Middlesex; his mother, Anna Stinedurf, Sharpsville; two grandchildren, Alex and Anna Hlumyk; and two sisters, Linda Baine and her husband Tom, Aberdeen, MD; and Terri Cameron and her husband Rich, Sharon.
He was preceded in death by his father.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Cancer Care Center or to Hospice Home Care, both in c/o Sharon Regional Health System, 740 E. State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday (12-31-08) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Geraldine Williams, hospice chaplain, officiating.
Interment: Westside Cemetery, S. Pymatuning Township.
