Raymond S. Giardina, 92, formerly a longtime resident of Hermitage, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, May 27, 2025, in UPMC Shenango Valley Hospital, Farrell.
Mr. Giardina was born January 10, 1933, in Greenville, PA, a son of the late Patsy and Concetta (Catalano) Giardina. He attended St. Michael Parochial Grade School, later graduating from St. Michael High School in 1952, both in Greenville.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Ray served as Military Police (MP) while stationed in Germany. In addition to his honorable discharge, he was awarded the Occupation Medal – Germany, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. Ray was a member of the Sharon American Legion, the Hickory and Farrell VFW, Sons of Italy, Federation of Clubs, and the Italian American War Veterans (ITAM).
Ray retired from Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant, where he worked as a millwright for many years. He was also a member of USW Local 1197, Farrell, and served as Treasurer/Secretary.
Ray was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell, where he actively volunteered, especially at events supporting the former MSGR. Geno Monti Parochial Grade School.
A dedicated family man, he coached many of his sons' youth sports teams and loved supporting his grandchildren in their many activities. He was also an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed playing golf.
His beloved wife of 67 years, Joanne Michaelene (Mastrian) Giardina, whom he married on April 14, 1956, preceded him in death on December 17, 2023.
Ray is survived by four sons, Patrick Giardina, West Middlesex, Timothy Giardina (Maggie), Pickerington, OH, Michael Giardina (Cheryl), Wampum, PA, and Raymond "Chip" Giardina (Anita), Pickerington, OH; nine grandchildren, Tony Giardina (Erica), Franco Giardina (Lyndsey), Autumn Giardina (Greg Horn), Rachel Giardina, Megan Iori (Dominic), Travis Giardina, Caroline Scisci (Gio), Tiffany Stell (Garrett), and Nick Giardina, six great-grandchildren, Cecilia Giardina, Gianna Iori, Lino Scisci, Gianni Giardina, Viviana Iori, Evelyn Horn, and another due in August! Ray is also survived by a brother, John Giardina (Beverly), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, Ray was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Bob, and Norm Giardina.

Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 1 p.m., in the church, with Rev. Frank DiCristini, as celebrant. Military honors will be rendered following Mass by the Wheatland AL and West Middlesex VFW Honor Guard.
Interment: St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hermitage.
