Randolph W. "Randy" Wolanin of Farrell passed away peacefully surrounded by family Friday afternoon, August 24, 2018, in his residence. He was 66.
Randy was born August 13, 1952, in Sharon, a son of the late Henry R. and Rose Mary (Steach) Wolanin. He was a 1970 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage, where he once held the school's pole vaulting record until it was broken by his brother, Stephen, just 6 years later.
Randy was employed at Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant until its closing in 1992. He then completed courses at New Castle School of Trades, New Castle, prior to joining the carpenters' union.
Randy retired from the Carpenters' Local Union No 268, Sharon, following 22 years of employment. He always put his talents and love for woodworking to good use by building decks and completing many jobs for family, friends and neighbors.
He was of the Catholic Faith.
Randy was a member of the Slovenian Working Men's Club, Sharon, and Slovak Home, Farrell. An avid pool player, he also enjoyed playing in Basilone's golf and softball leagues.
Surviving are: his longtime companion with whom he made his home, Yvonne Kostka, two daughters, Melissa Terase, Melbourne, FL, and Alexis (Brent) Lammers, Clearwater, FL; three sisters, Roxanne (John "Rusty") King, Hermitage, Karen (Michael "Moose") Tomko, Sharon, and Kimberly (Chris) Donegan, Vienna, OH; a brother, Stephen (Joy) Wolanin, Clemons, N.C.; two grandchildren, Ella Terase and Tyson Lammers; extended family members, Ursula Goda, Tim Goda, and Deborah Goda and her children; and many nieces and nephews. Randy also leaves his beloved pet cats, Sophie, Grace, Rosie and Baby.
In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Garrett.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday (8-27-18) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday (8-28-18) in the funeral home, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, officiating.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
