R. Scott Johnson, 55, of New Castle passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, May 14, 2024, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Scott was born July 18, 1968, in New Castle, a son of Raymond G. and Bonita L. (Bonfield) Johnson. After graduating from Lawrence Vo-Tech in 1986, he completed an associate degree program in auto mechanics at Vale Tech in Blairsville, PA.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Scott was stationed in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia while on deployment during Operation Desert Storm.

Scott retired from Ellwood Quality Steels Co., New Castle, where he worked in the melt shop for 10 years. He was previously employed by Elliot Brother's Steel, also in New Castle.

An intelligent man with many hobbies, Scott had a lifelong passion for model building, enjoyed constructing R.C. cars, and gaming on his computer. More recently, he became interested in cooking, especially grilling and smoking delicious meat recipes.

Scott is survived by his fiancé, Kelly P. Dougherty, with whom he made his home in New Castle; his mother, Bonita Johnson, of New Castle; a son, Christopher M. Johnson (Nikita), of Brookline, PA; a brother, Brandon J. Johnson (Christine), of New Castle; a step-daughter, Morrigan E. Dougherty; a granddaughter, Scarlett B. Hansen; and a nephew, Braiden Johnson.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Raymond G. Johnson.

Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday (5-18-24) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

A Blessing Service will be held immediately following, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.

Full military honors will be rendered by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
