Obituary

Phyllis J. Johnson, 71, of New Castle passed away unexpectedly at 2:25 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, in Jameson Hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. Johnson was born on June 22, 1939, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Carl and Vivian Brooks Hall.

She was a lifelong city resident and a 1957 alumna of New Castle High School.

A homemaker, Phyllis enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and collecting strawberry-themed items. Her greatest joy, however, was the time she shared with her family. Phyllis was a loving, caring and nurturing mother who was always willing to take time to listen. She doted on her grandchildren whom she adored and was a devoted wife for 48 years. Always giving of herself, she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving include her husband, Marvin W. Johnson, whom she married on July 26, 1962; two sons, Marco P. Johnson of Erie and Michael W. Johnson and his wife, Kristen, of New Castle; two precious grandchildren, Mikayla and Logan; twin nephews, Vincent Hall and his wife, Barb, of Morgantown, W.Va., and Victor Hall of Miami; several cousins, including Mary Morgan and her husband, Charles, of Morgantown; a special friend, Judy Brennan and her husband, Richard, of McDonald, Ohio; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Besides her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Hall, and a nephew, Carl Hall.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, and noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
