Funeral services will be held Tuesday for Phillip P. Disko, Hermitage, formerly of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell, who passed away peacefully of natural causes at 10:10 p.m. on Thursday (6-9-11) in UPMC Horizon Hospital in Farrell. He was 85.
Mr. Disko was born on May 7, 1926 in Farrell the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Minar Disko.
A decorated WWII veteran, he was called to duty on October 25, 1944 and served with the 11th Infantry in the European Theater of Operations. He was honorably discharged on June 25, 1946 with the European African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with one Battle Star, the Good Conduct medal, and ultimately the WWII Victory medal.
He received his High School Diploma from Farrell High School after returning home from his tour of duty in 1946.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at his family's camp near Cooks Forest, Clarion County. Mr. Disko also loved watching his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, Penn State Nittany Lions, and he was a lifelong Farrell Sports fan. In his early years he coached Little League baseball in Farrell.
His wife the former Betty L. Tennant, whom he married on December 27, 1946, passed away February 4, 2006.
He leaves his two sons, Phillip L. Disko and his wife Carol, Hermitage, and Thomas G. Disko, Farrell; two granddaughters, Amy L. Fabry Snodgrass and her husband Larry, Los Angeles, Ca; and Cherrie L. Fabry Cindric and her husband Todd, Greensburg, Pa.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Anna Lanshcak, and Elizabeth Disko, and five brothers, Joseph, Andrew, and Frank Disko, and John and Nicholas Buynak.
Calling hours: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (6-13-11) and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday (6-14-11) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.
