Peter W. "Babe" Yankus,
86, of Orlando,
Florida, passed
away peacefully on September 17, 2018.
Mr. Yankus was born April 29, 1932, in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of
William and
Monica (Pranskunas) Yankus. He
graduated from
South
Hills
High School in 1950 and received his bachelor's
degree from Grove City College in Pennsylvania. He bravely served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his loving wife , the former Martha Flack, whom he married in September of 1958; a daughter, Marie (Yankus) LaFrance and her husband Carl. He also leaves to cherish his memory three grandchildren, Elaine (LaFrance) Costanzo and her husband Francis; and Carleigh and Roger LaFrance; four great-grandchildren, Dominic, Johnny Joseph, Michael, and Grace; a sister, Patronia Ciotti; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Vincent Yankus; four
sisters, Anna, Antonette, Elizabeth and Ruth; and one brother, John.
Pete had a longtime career
as an accountant
in the steel industry, working for Youngstown Sheet and Tube and LTV steel. He retired to Florida in 1998 where he put many smiles on children's faces as a
n attraction greeter at
Walt Disney World
. Everyone will remember him as a happy and fun loving, kind, and generous man.
Calling hours will be 9 a.m. until the time of the service Monday (09/24/2018) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc, 1090 East State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, officiating.
Interment: St. Ann Cemetery, Hermitage.
