Obituary

Pauline Desput of 1524 Ridge Avenue, Sharpsville, PA, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 5:22 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 in her residence. She was 92.

Miss Desput was born November 5, 1919, in Farrell, PA, to John and Mary Karaga Desput.

A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of Farrell High School.

She was employed as a young girl at the George & Thomas Cone Factory (now Joy Cone Company). She was a longtime employee at the former Sharon Transformer division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation where she worked in many capacities including coil winder, she retired in 1981.

Pauline was affectionately known as 'Aunt Polly' by all of her nieces' many friends and those who loved her.

She was a member of the Croatian American Civic Club Lodge 126 and the Croatian Fraternal Union of Pittsburgh, PA. Pauline was also a member of both the Audubon and National Geographic Societies. Pauline was proud of her ethnic roots. In her ?70's she learned to read music and play the Prim, the native folk instrument of Croatia. She traveled to Croatia in 1976 and 1980 with the Sloga Tamburitzans of Farrell and got to visit the home where her Mother was born and meet her maternal and paternal families in the quaint villages of Croatia. Passionate for nature and travel, Pauline enjoyed adventures to a luau and hula dancing in Hawaii, a Carribean cruise; whale watching in Massachusetts, hot air ballooning in Sedona AZ, helicopter hiking in the Canadian Rockies, white water rafting in Alaska and Canada. She fulfilled her dream of hiking into the canyons of Bryce Canyon, Utah and flying in a Cessna over Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley, Utah at age 89. Pauline's zest for life, !

strength and positive attitude will continue to be such a positive influence and inspiration to those who knew and loved her.

Polly treasured holiday traditions and enjoyed making homemade chicken soup, noodles, nut rolls and pizzelles for her family and, 'stuffing the turkey.'

Surviving are her sister-in-law, Dorothy Desput, Pulaski, four nieces, Tina Alcaro, Sharon, who was her caregiver and travel companion, Jacqueline Leo and her husband G. Neil Leo, Pasadena, Md.; Rosemarie Desput, Pulaski; Mary Richards and her husband Chris, Acworth, Ga.; three great-nieces, Cailyn and Samantha Leo; and Sierra Richards.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sylvia Alcaro, brothers John and Frank Desput; and her nephew, James Desput.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 Tuesday (3-6-12) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.

Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (3-7-12) in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Daniel J. Kresinski, pastor of St. Anthony's Church, Sharon officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
