Obituary

Paul E. Moore of Sharon passed away following a long history of heart disease on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 in UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh.  He was 85.

Mr. Moore was born August 27, 1931, in Greenville, a son of John H. and Mildred (Mahan) Moore.

He was a 1949 graduate of the former Penn High School in Greenville and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany with the 1st Infantry Division Band and was also part of the 7th Army Symphony.

Following his discharge, Paul began working for the Sharon Police Department reaching the rank of Sergeant before retiring in 1980 with 27 years of service.  He was a very compassionate civil servant throughout his career and opened his home to many people who needed help.

He then began working for the Mercer County Courts as a tip staff and a domestic relations hearing officer and retired in 1998.

Paul was a long time active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Sharon. He served in many leadership roles, and was a volunteer for meals on wheels. He was also a member of the former Grace Lutheran Church in Farrell, where he served as the choir director.

Paul was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks (BPOE) Lodge #103, Sharon, where he served as an officer, trustee and the director of the Hoop Shoot, which was a role very dear to his heart.

He was also a member of Moose Lodge #55, Farrell; Hickory VFW Post #6166, Hermitage; American Legion Post #613, Farrell; and an active member of F.O.P. "Rose of Sharon" Lodge #3, Sharon.

Paul had an intense love of music and shared it though many aspects of his life.  He was 1st chair violinist in the Shenango Valley Community Orchestra and performed with the Youngstown and Greenville Symphonies.

Paul loved classical music, especially opera and taught violin at Kings Music, in Hermitage as well as private lessons..

An avid bowler, he was a member of many bowling leagues in the Valley, including the Friday Night Kegglers and the Monday Men's Senior League at Thorton Hall Lanes in Sharon.

Paul enjoyed traveling across the country and competing in Moose and Elks Club tournaments.

Paul had a true passion for life and touched everyone he met in some way.

Besides travelling, he enjoyed time spent in the mountains, playing euchre and cheering for the Pittsburg Steelers. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Paul is survived by: his wife of 61 years, the former, Mary Ann Orendi, at home; two daughters, Paula Sue Moore, Sharon; and Linda Ohle and her husband John, New Mexico; a son, David Moore, Marietta, GA; two grandchildren, Nathaniel Ohle and Neil Ohle and his fiancé' Vinnessa Martinez, all of New Mexico; and a half-brother, Charles Altmire, Butler, PA.
