Paul Gilboy, 89, of New Castle passed away peacefully Monday evening, September 10, 2018, in Avalon Place Nursing Home. Paul was born September 27, 1928, in New Castle, a son of the late Thomas and Rose (Mack) Gilboy.
Paul had several careers in his life. While still in middle school, he helped his mother operate a small grocery store on Grant Street after the death of his father in 1938. Paul began working with Local Union 33 of New Castle (now 712) as an electrician in 1952, later becoming union manager in 1967. He retired in 1990 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Pittsburgh, where he worked as a labor relations specialist for 17 years.
Paul loved singing and sang in numerous quartets and choruses, most notably as an active member of the Barbershop Harmony Singing Society for 55 years. He was a charter member of the Lawrence County Chapter of Barbershop Singers and active in the Shenango Valley Chapter in Hermitage.
Paul was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, New Castle, where he sang as a cantor and member of the church choir.
His wife, Julia, shared their love of music and together they enjoyed participating in local theater and attending Broadway musicals.
Paul was a loving, caring man devoted to his family. Although he will be greatly missed, he will remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
Surviving are: his beloved wife of 63 years, the former Julia Toth, whom he married May 21, 1955; a son, Christopher Gilboy and his wife Lisa, of New Jersey; a daughter, Ann Marie Ellis and her husband, Johnnie, of Virginia; and three grandsons Matthew and Kevin Gilboy; and Sean Ellis.
In addition to his parents, Paul was proceeded in death by brothers William and Thomas and three sisters Mary Clark, Clare Jones, and Rose Shaffer.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (9-14-18) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday (9-15-18) in St. Joseph Church, 1111 S Cascade St, New Castle, with Rev. James A. Downs, as celebrant.
Interment: Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Ellwood City.
